So i was needing some conformation here. I have heard it both ways that AT&T would have terrible service upon the switch over due to them having a different type of tower signal. I also heard that Verizon woud not have any service in Wise County. Is any of this true?
Verizon should have the same service that it does now. It shouldn't change.
As for AT&T not having good service, I am not totally positive about this, but they should have about the same service as Alltel does now. Yes, they use two different technologies and I have read that AT&T's signal does not travel as far as Alltel's, but the only way to find out is actually use it I suppose. Assuming you are a current Alltel customer, when AT&T takes over, you have up to 30 days to try out the network and if you do not like it then you can cancel it without an ETF within that 30 days.
Verizon wont have entirely the same service, and AT&T wont have the same service Alltel & Verizon had, but there will be both AT&T and Verizon service in Wise Co.
Verizon and Alltel had an agreement to piggyback off each others towers. They used the same technology. Verizon service would work off Alltel towers and Alltel service would work off Verizon towers.
But AT&T will have a different tower technology. AT&T phones wont pick up from Verizon towers and vice-versa.
I ultimately decided to go with AT&T because if I go to my parents house in Pound, I wouldnt have service if I had Verizon. The Pound cell tower is Alltel, which will be changed to AT&T.

I don't have a contract at all right now so I guess it's just wait and see how it plays out.

Yeah, either way, some service will be lost. I just made my decision based on where I travel. I'll be paying close attention to the service and if necessary will use the 30-day trial exception.

One thing about going to AT&t, you won't be in any dead zone when you go to Eastern Ky now because they have them over there, my question is ****enson county, I would roam there, was that Appy wireless also?
just got off the phone with alltel tech support. When AT&T takes over alltel in wise county, your new AT&T phone will not work in ****enson, russle or lee counties, and will only work in Duffield in scott county. Verizon will still work in these areas. When you get your new phone from AT&T you will be able cancel your contract at anytime within the first 30 days. AT&T has no towers in these areas and have no plans to build any and you must be within a certain distance from an AT%T to use AT&T services and they are only taking over alltel customers in wise county. Verizon is taking over all other alltel areas. If you want to use your cell phone in these other counties, switch to verizon as soon as the change takes effect.
